The Episcopal Actor's Guild

Temporary Part-time Front of House Staff

The Episcopal Actors’ Guild (EAG) is seeking individuals for a short-term (September-December 2021) Front of House Staff position to join our team of house/facilities managers to help us cover Guild Hall rentals. We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable person with excellent communication skills and experience working front of house in a theatrical setting as a house manager, usher, and/or box office staff. CPR, first aid, and fire safety training are a plus but not required. We are especially interested in interviewing BIPOC candidates.

EAG is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides emergency financial aid and support to NYC’s professional performers of all faiths and none who are undergoing financial crisis. We are also dedicated to helping emerging artists advance their careers through scholarships, awards, and performance opportunities.

When we are not producing our own events, we rent out our historic theatre space at Guild Hall (1 East 29th Street, NYC 10016) to outside groups for plays, readings, screenings, meetings, classes, etc.

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

Maintaining the security of Guild Hall. You will be the first in and the last out for each rental, unlocking and locking the space.

Checking the vaccination status of everyone who will be entering Guild Hall and ensuring that everyone entering the space is wearing a mask. Guild Hall is a fully vaccinated facility.

Helping to ensure a safe environment for all Guild Hall patrons, including those with mobility or accessibility limitations. This includes assisting people with/operating the stair chair when requested.

Accommodating reasonable renter requests such as setting up one of our microphones or giving a quick tutorial on how to turn on the sound and light boards, how to plug a phone/laptop into the sound board, or how to operate the air-conditioning.

Troubleshooting and resolving any issues that come up during a rental such as issues with the sound or light board, air-conditioning or heating, a clogged toilet, etc.).

Making sure the space is left clean. While renters are responsible for restoring the space to the way they found it, you will be responsible for taking out the trash, vacuuming, and disinfecting touchpoints. You will also be responsible for refilling paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in the bathroom as needed.

You are NOT required to set up the chairs, tables, stage, etc. Nor are you responsible for running lights or sound or box office for the renter.

How to Submit: Please email your resume and cover letter to Executive Director Karen Lehman Foster at karen@actorsguild.org.

Applications accepted until: September 7, 2021

Position begins: mid to late September

Type of position: 1099, working from Guild Hall. While this is a temporary position, there is the possibility of being permanently added to the staff as a W2 employee.

Requirements: EAG is requiring that all staff be fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means that an individual received their final dose at least 14-days after a second dose in a 2-dose vaccine and/or at least 14-days after a single-dose vaccine. Proof of vaccination will be required.

Schedule: Rentals are scheduled outside of EAG’s regular business hours on weeknights and weekends so some weekend availability is a must. We generally know our rental schedule about 1 month in advance and we will work with you in determining which shifts you will cover. We anticipate up to 10-20 hours of work per week may be available through the end of the year, depending on the number of rentals on the calendar and your availability. EAG is closed for all federal holidays including Juneteenth and is closed for the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
