NYWIFT Talks: Distance Learning with Dr. Kimberly Greene

In our April 6, 2020, NYWIFT Talks webinar, we joined distance learning expert Dr. Kimberly Greene for a Zoom conversation. We focused on tips and best practices for teaching and learning in virtual classes. Kimberly was one of the first people in the world to receive an Ed.D. in Educational Technology and in the last few weeks has been guiding thousands of teachers through the process of moving their classes into the digital world. 

This discussion was moderated by NYWIFT Senior Development and Editorial Consultant Maud Kersnowski-Sachs.

Professor Dr. Kimberly Greene teaches online for Brandman University’s School of Education. She served as an instructional designer throughout Brandman’s transition to blended learning and then as the founding director for the Center for Instructional Innovation (CII). Her Ed.D. in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University put her at the forefront of the international movement to integrate technology into the educational process in a meaningful fashion, something she continues to research, teach, write, and speak about at conferences around the world, including a recent presentation at Cambridge University for the London International Conference on Education.

Along with her work as a pre k-12 classroom and studio teacher, Dr. Greene’s professional history includes serving as the director of education for Michael Milken’s Knowledge Kids Network as well as a consultant on educational media issues for such companies as LeapFrog Toys and Honda of America. In 2004, she consulted with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to create a talking book The Afghan Family Health Book that teaches basic survival skills to Afghani women. In 2013, Dr. Greene was honored with Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology’s Distinguished Alumnae award. Additionally, in 2018 Dr. Greene was named Faculty of the Year for Brandman University’s School of Education.

Maud Kersnowski-Sachs leads fundraising efforts and strategies for NYWIFT. Working closely with the Development Committee and the Executive Director, she directs corporate, philanthropic, and government partnerships. Maud also manages publications projects for the organization. Maud has led publications for the Sundance Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and the Association on Independent Video and Filmmakers (AIVF) and the editor-in-chief of The Independent Film & Video Monthly. She has covered arts, entertainment, and media for publications from Metropolis Magazine to IndieWIRE, where she also held the post of West Coast Editor.

She consults on editorial and development projects for a variety of arts and culture organizations. Maud founded and manages a scholarship and engagement program at Bard College’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and is a member of the Bard College Board of Governors. She holds a BA in Women’s Studies from Bard College and an MA in Cultural Reporting and Criticism from the NYU School of Journalism.
