Michele Prettyman Ph.D. has had a varied career in film and media beginning in documentary film production to her current work as a scholar of African American film and visual culture and an Assistant Professor of film/media at Fordham University. She is also a co-founder of Daughters of Eve Media, a writer, and a media consultant.

Dr. Michele Prettyman is a native of Baltimore who currently lives in New York where she is an Assistant Professor at Fordham University in the Department of Communication and Media Studies and also an affiliate faculty member in the Department of African and African American Studies. She is a writer, consultant, curator, storyteller, and scholar whose work explores Black filmmaking and spirituality. Over the years she has taught courses in Digital Storytelling, Screenwriting, African American and Global Cinemas, and the histories of film and television among many others. She is also a co-founder of Daughters of Eve Media which amplifies and supports the work of black filmmakers and creatives. Michele appears alongside Chuck D, the late John Singleton, and others in the recently released documentary film, Oscar Micheaux: The Superhero of Black Filmmaking screening now on HBO Max.
