Alana Kakoyiannis is a New York based, Cypriot bred filmmaker with over fifteen years of experience working in digital video. She specializes in developing and overseeing premium, non-fiction series and standalone videos e.g. mini-docs, explainers for digital news publications and brands on YouTube and streaming platforms. Her core strengths are executing on ideas, video optimization and managing complex, character driven stories. She is currently the Managing Editor of Video at Freethink Media. In her role as Supervising Producer for CNBC Make It she launched 12 series including the viral hits Millennial Money and Suddenly Obsessed. Previously, Alana was a Senior Producer at Business Insider where she co-directed, IKARIA: The Island Where People Live Forever and helped lead a team of high performers producing long form documentaries. In the past, she created content for Monocle, Etsy, and the United Nations throughout Europe and the Levant. She was also the Technical Officer for the Cyprus Community Media Centre in Nicosia where she organized the American Film Showcase in conjunction with USC School of Cinematic Arts. Her 2009 film 'Still' screened at various festivals internationally including the Raindance Film Festival, and Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival. She has taught film and digital media at Hunter College, American University of Cairo and in various cultural exchanges throughout Europe. Raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Alana earned her M.F.A. from Hunter College s Integrated Media Arts Program and her B.A. from Denison University. She also attended the Lawrenceville School.
