Letter from the NYWIFT Executive Director – April 7, 2020

April 7, 2020

Dear NYWIFT Community:

As the religious holidays approach, we wish happiness and peace to all who are celebrating.

We hope you are able to enjoy wellness and ease of mind during these very emotional times. I keep reminding myself and my family – this is our temporary reality and better times will come. Every painful time I have lived is usually followed by a period of calm. If you or someone in your family is ill, we pray that you are on the mend. If you have lost someone dear in your family or community our deepest condolences.

At NYWIFT we continue to launch a series of innovative initiatives so that our members can connect, develop their professional skills, and stay engaged with the industry even while sheltering at home:

  • NYWIFT Talks is a new free weekly series to bring updated news and vital information about the impact of COVID-19 on the media and entertainment industry. Industry professionals will be in conversation discussing what you need to know about theatrical releases, digital advances, virtual tools, festival opportunities, production updates and more. Register for upcoming Talks on our Events page.

  • NYWIFT Programming Goes Digital: NYWIFT members can attend the NYWIFT Talks webinars live for free, then the recordings are available to the general public afterward free of charge of on our new digital programming hub.

  • Peer-to-Peer Networking on Facebook – Unfortunately our messaging service GoldenWheel has folded during this difficult time. But we’re not letting that stop us from ensuring that our members continue networking! We encourage you to join our new private Facebook group – open to all paying members of NYWIFT. Connect directly with fellow members to ask advice, hire and be hired, share housing requests – whatever you need right now from your NYWIFT Sisters.

I believe that in every tragedy, there is an opportunity. Let’s try to stay as strong as we can physically and emotionally because we need to continue to create together.

Onward,

Cynthia Lopez
