The school currently offers a Master of Arts in Journalism, a unique bilingual M.A. in Journalism for students fluent in English and Spanish, and the nation's first M.A. in Engagement Journalism.


Under supervision of the College Laboratory Technician, performs miscellaneous technical, research or other work related to Audio-Visual Support or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration. Candidates will also be expected to learn emerging audio/video technology, as the school is very technologically forward looking. This is a part-time role and will be assigned up to 25 hours per week.


This position is 100% in person.


Duties include but are not limited to:


- Inspects classroom equipment on a daily basis;


- Answers and attends to telephone calls or in-person support requests for classroom Audio-Visual assistance;


- Proactively troubleshoots, assesses (tests) and coordinates equipment and system repair as required;


- Operates computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned task;


- Provides Audio-Visual support for various special events hosted on campus;


- Maintains records, relays information and assists with collecting and compiling data on service calls, escalating to other staff as needed;


- Assists in researching equipment, and developing specification;


- Assists with entering and maintaining departmental records such as inventory records and schedules;


- Performs related duties as assigned.

GENERAL DUTIES

Assistant Media Services Technicians, under direct supervision, perform simple, routine work involving the transportation, setting-up, operation and preventative maintenance of audio-visual and related electronic equipment, such as projectors of all types, audio and video recorders, video and photographic cameras, portable public address systems and video maintenance and repair equipment. Must have a general knowledge pertinent of Windows and Apple based computers software perform related work.


General Work Tasks

- Install, adjust, and operate electronic equipment to record, edit, and transmit radio and television

   programs, motion pictures, video conferencing, or multimedia presentations. Diagnose and

   resolve media system problems under supervision.

- Mix and regulate sound inputs and feeds or coordinate audio feeds with television pictures.

   Compress, digitize, duplicate, and store audio and video data.

- Perform minor repairs and routine cleaning of audio and video equipment. Notify supervisors

   when equipment repairs are needed.

- Monitor incoming and outgoing pictures and sound feeds to ensure quality and notify supervisors

   of any possible problems.

- Obtain, set up, and load media of scheduled productions and play back. Analyze and maintain data

   logs for audio-visual activities.

- Maintain inventories of audio and videotapes and related supplies. Inform users of audio and

   videotaping service policies and procedures. Sets up and operates audio/video equipment.

- Performs routine preventative maintenance on audio/video equipment. Assists in maintaining

   inventory records of equipment and parts.

- Notifies supervisor when minor equipment repairs are needed Transports equipment for on-site

   use or shop repair.

- Operates motor vehicle, as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High School diploma or its equivalent and six months of full-time experience acquired within the last five years, in routine maintenance and operation of various projectors or other electronic equipment such as portable public address systems, audio recorders and cameras; or


2. Graduation from a recognized vocational or technical high school for radio and television mechanics or related trades; or


3. High school diploma its equivalent and two years of verifiable experience as a member of a High School audio visual team, or six months of work-study in an approved Board of Education program, which included work with audio or related electronic equipment.


DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT: A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. Ability to work off schedule, flexible.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS


A preferred candidate should have:


- Ability to work evenings and weekends.

COMPENSATION


New hire* - $15.38


Incumbent - $17.38


* This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment.


IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.


After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.


If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.


Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
