In Memoriam: Eva María Daniels

(July 5, 1979 – June 30, 2023)

Eva Maria Daniels was a film producer and financier, specializing in crafting original content with themes of social relevance. In 2010, she established Eva Daniels Productions in New York. Since its inception, Eva oversaw the production of nine feature films, all of which garnered acquisition by major distributors and premiered at prestigious film festivals. Additionally, Joe Bell, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and starring Mark Wahlberg and Reid Miller, premiered at TIFF in 2020, enjoying a wide theatrical release by Roadside Attractions in 2021. Hold The Dark, directed by Jeremy Saulnier and starring Jeffrey Wright and Alexander Skarsgard, premiered at TIFF in 2018 and was globally distributed by Netflix the same year.

Among her recent works is Reality, helmed by Tina Satter and featuring Sydney Sweeney, which debuted at Berlinale in 2023 and was acquired by HBO. It was co-written and directed by Tina Satter and based on her play Is This a Room. It is based on an FBI transcript taken during an interview with Reality Winner, a former NSA translator who leaked sensitive government documents and who was sentenced to 63 months in prison. Sweeney plays Winner in the film.

Eva was originally from Iceland where she studied business and philosophy at the University of Iceland and completed an additional degree in film production from KBH Film & Fotoskole in Copenhagen in 2003.

She was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic. She is survived by her husband, Moritz Diller, and her 5-year-old son, Henry.
