12PM PANEL – Beyond Hollywood: Authenticity and Opportunity
Filmmakers and actors with disabilities continue to have limited access to opportunities in film and television. Onscreen depictions of disability rarely ever include people with disabilities. How can disabled artists find a permanent place at the table? With new formats and platforms opening doors to a more diverse and accessible production and programming, people of all abilities SHOULD be able to break through Hollywood’s less accessible barriers and create a more inclusive media landscape. In this provocative panel discussion, leaders in the field will talk candidly about the continued lack of representation of disability at all levels of production. Join us for this constructive conversation to learn from industry professionals as they discuss their own career paths and explore the tension between authenticity and artistic license, between accuracy and appropriation.
Co-presented with SAG-AFTRA, NYC Mayor’s Office for Media and Entertainment, and Inclusion in the Arts.

The poignant coming-of-age story of Connor, Nick, Sarah and Carina, who navigate the growing pains of high school but, unlike most teens, face another challenge—they are blind. Do You Dream in Color? captures their journeys as they strive to achieve their goals: to be a sponsored skateboarder, to travel the world, to become a rock star, and to be the first in one’s family to graduate high school. Through their personal stories we learn of the experience of being blind and how these fearless teenagers navigate through it.
