Las Madres, The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo (1985)
Las Madres: The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, an Academy Award
nominee, tells the story of a group of mothers, who have all lost a son
or daughter during Argentina's "Dirty War" in the 1970's when thousands
of people disappeared. They come together in the Plaza de Mayo in
Buenos Aires and demand to learn the fate of their children. The film
received numerous international prizes.

Lourdes Portillo is a director, writer, and producer of film and
television. She studied at the San Francisco Art Institute. Her films
are considered as among the most distinguished cultural productions of
Latin Americans in the US and is recognized for artistic excellence by
the Rockefeller Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and the
Guggenheim Foundation among many others.
