Member Profile: Loreen Arbus

Loreen Arbus is president/executive producer of Loreen Arbus Productions, a multi-tiered production company developing nonfiction programming for network, cable, syndication and the Internet.

She was the first U.S. woman to head up programming for two cable networks — Showtime and Cable Health Network/Lifetime — and has been an Emmy nominee.

Arbus is deeply committed to working with United Cerebral Palsy. Founded by her parents, Leonard and Isabelle Goldenson, UCP serves and advocates for more than 54 million Americans with disabilities. In 2006, she created a groundbreaking partnership between UCP and Children's Rights, which advocates on behalf of the nation's abused and neglected children. The union resulted in Isabelle's Kids, a program that addresses the needs of hundreds of thousands of children and youth with disabilities in and outside of foster care.

The Loreen Arbus Award to honor those Who Take Action to Effect Change will be given annually to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to promoting the advancement of women in the entertainment industry. She is also underwriting the Loreen Arbus Scholarship Grant, a new NYWIFT program helping a woman of color or woman with disabilities pursue a career in film and television.

Arbus has authored six nonfiction books and is a regular contributor to several national magazines and newspapers. She is also an internationally-recognized Argentinean tango dancer and choreographer.

She has received the Heart of Giving Award (presented by President Bill Clinton), the Headliner Award (Women in Communications), Lifetime Achievement Award (American Women in Radio and Television) and Woman of Distinction Award (Hollywood Chamber of Commerce). Arbus also was included in The Hollywood Reporter's list of "The 100 Power Women in Entertainment." In December, 2006, she was inducted as an honoree into the Museum of Television & Radio's "She Made It: Women Creating Television & Radio" collection.

Arbus is board member of The Museum of Television and Radio, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation, Producer's Guild of America, UCP Associations and UCP Research & Educational Foundation. She also serves on advisory committees at Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Women's Leadership Board/The John F. Kennedy School of Government, Independent Documentary Association and Weizmann Institute of Science.
