NYWIFT congratulates Kathryn Bigelow for her best director Oscar win and for being the first woman in history to pick up the Oscar and best feature direction award from the Director's Guild of America for "The Hurt Locker".
Only four women have ever been nominated for a best director Academy Award; Lina Wertmuller for "Seven Beauties," in 1977; Jane Campion for "The Piano," in 1994; and Sofia Coppola for "Lost in Translation," in 2003.
