CineWomen On Screen - A NYWIFT series: Wonder . . . 10 short films, 1 script
This screening series celebrates the
work of emerging female filmmakers
from all over the world. Films that are included in the series must be
directed, co-directed, produced, written, edited or shot by women.
Whenever possible, the filmmakers are present for discussion and
socializing after their works are presented. There will be a Q&A
following the screening, and a reception to follow, with Cash Bar
and complimentary food, at:

What do you get when you cross Mumblecore with elements of Dogme 95 and New York, I Love You? You get WONDER . . . 10 short films, 1 script.
It's one feature film made by 10 directors. The twist? The shorts range from thrillers to comedies to dramas. They each use the same scripted dialogue, but with different actors and locations. The project was conceived by Dutch Doscher within the Directors 'n Actors (DnA) directors lab, and features the talents of three NYWIFT members: directors Peggy Howard Chane and Annetta Marion and editor Veronique Doumbe.
Other directors are: Shari Carpenter, Dutch Doscher, Ian Fischer, Jason Hayes, Jordon Horowitz, Evan O'Brien, Don Puglisi and Ross Williams, with Ed Roy as Compilation Producer.

Directors:
Peggy Howard Chane spent five years at Paramount Pictures, working on the series Bosom Buddies and TV movies, then formed her own production company, CPC Entertainment, which produced the thriller In the Eyes of a Stranger. She now directs plays in L.A . and New York. Upcoming film projects include River to Greyrock, Passing Thru and Full Crop of Earlies. She began her career as Associate Producer of docs at the United States Information Agency working on the moon landing, followed by game shows, pageants, sporting events and music videos.
Annetta Marion is an award-winning filmmaker whose work spans documentary and narrative films, broadcast commercials, public service announcements and episodes for a Web series. Marion is currently developing her next film with producer Peter Wentworth. She has received a directing fellowship at AFI's Directing Workshop for Women, and has been nominated for the Working Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence Award and the Northern Ohio Live Awards of Achievement in Film/Radio/TV.
Shari Carpenter's debut feature film, Kali's Vibe, won both the Jury Award and the Audience Award for Best Feature at the Denver Pan African Film Festival and a Vision Award at the Los Angeles Pan African Film Festival. She has written and directed four shorts: Walk, Call Me On It, The Assistant and Since Lisa, which won awards at the Black Filmmaker's Hall of Fame, the Black American Cinema Society and the Rochester International Film Festival.
Dutch Doscher has been a freelance director of after-school specials, music videos and short films as well as many educational videos. He has completed over 50 after-school specials, earning numerous awards from the Association of Visual Communications. He has also earned awards from the Columbus Film & Video Festival, Connecticut Film Festival, Cannes Short Film Corner, Los Angeles Shorts Festival, New Filmmaker New York City, International Filmmaker Film Festival and the Houston International Film Festival.
Ian Fischer directed Man on Earth's music video for Hold Your Breath and Brace for the Crash. His short film Foet won Best Adaptation at South Africa Horrorfest and has been accepted into Cannes, New York City Horror Film Festival, Boston Underground and the Fantasia Festival. His multi-award-winning short film, Magritte Moment, recently won Best Short Film at the Philadelphia Asian-American Film Festival and Best Experimental Film at the Route 66 Film Festival.
Jay D. Hayes was a Top 5 Finalist in the Director's Competition in season two of Project Greenlight. He worked for Philadelphia-based production company The Big Picture Alliance where he wrote, produced, directed, edited and acted in over 40 different films, shorts, PSA's and commercials, many of which were screened in film festivals around the country. His shorts and features have also sold to local television stations for broadcast in the Philadelphia area.
Jordan Horowitz is an award-winning director and producer based in New York City. He is an active member of DnA, a weekly workshop in Manhattan that brings working directors and actors together to run scenes and improve their craft. Jordan has also served as a judge at two film festivals, New York Festivals and The Lower East Side Film Fest, and was on the screening committee for the 2009 Gen Art Film Fest.
Evan O'Brien, actor and first time director, has been seen on Parks And Recreation on NBC, General Hospital, Late Night With Conan O'Brien and many commercials and voice-overs, as well as theater in Manhattan and abroad. Will of Wonder is his first collaborative film project. He executive produced and performed in a new improvised storytelling radio program in Hollywood called The Naked Air. O'Brien has worked with the Upright Citizens Brigade, Gotham Improv and with ensembles at the Chicago and Toronto comedy festivals.
Don Puglisi is a New York-based actor/director who honed his skills in theatre directing showcases of such stageplays as Jesus Hopped the A Train, Glass Menagerie, Women of Manhattan and many others. As an actor, he has been in various New York episodics including Law and Order and Life On Mars. Film work includes Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock and Sangre de me Sangre.
Ross Adrian Williams is a composer whose music has been performed in North America, Australia and Asia by the West Australian Youth and Symphony Orchestras and the Australian String Quartet. Recently he has been composing and sound designing for theater and film using traditional and electronically manipulated sounds. He recently finished producing, engineering and mixing a full length album with the singer/songwriter Martin Bernt.
Moderator Abiola Abrams is an independent filmmaker, author, TV personality, motivational speaker, and self-declared Goddess Passionista. As part of her Safe Sex Initiative, she directed the award-winning and critically acclaimed feminist erotica art film, Afrodite Superstar. In addition, she hosts television shows like BET's, Best Shorts, HBO's The Buzz, and NBC's Source: All Access, and appears as a Pop Culture talking head on other major entertainment networks. She is the author of a popular debut novel DARE. She has also written several essays on love, sex, dating, and personal empowerment for bestselling anthologies, such as Behind the Bedroom Door and Dirty Words: A Literary Encyclopedia. Her writings on stopping violence against women and girls are published in Eve Ensler's anthology; A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer. She has also written for publications such as Self magazine and is a lead contributor of articles, video content, and celebrity interviews to several news and entertainment oriented web sites.
