How Social Media Can Enhance Your Content and Brand

Great stories are at the heart of the best social media. Compelling content is a prerequisite for the kind of meaningful collaboration that leads to vibrant cross-platform storytelling and successful community engagement.

This panel of innovators in social media marketing and content creation will demonstrate how the right stories can start conversations, create a voice for your brand and maximize citizen participation. They'll provide tips for building communities, microblogging and using the latest mobile applications.

Adam Clark Estes
is the social news editor at the Huffington Post. Previously, he worked as the citizen journalism editor for the Huffington Post and the Huffington Post Investigative Fund. He is also the former editor of IvyGate, a blog covering the news and gossip of the Ivy League,as well as a former editor at Let's Go Publications. He attended Harvard College where he was an editor at the Harvard Crimson and president of Current Magazine, a national student magazine partnered with Newsweek. He has also worked at Salon.com, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the United Nations.


Naisola Grimwood
is the producer of Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders, a documentary recently short-listed for an Academy Award. Living in Emergency is her debut as a producer.  Born in Kenya and educated in Sweden and France, she attended the School of Journalism at Cardiff University, Wales. Her film career includes stints at USA Films (now Focus Features) and four years as an assistant at Miramax Films, working in production, post-production and international distribution on Gangs of New York, Chicago, Sin City and other films.


Erin Lanuti
started her career in government and public affairs working in the White House, Pentagon and Parliament.  In 1995, she left the public sector to work for Burson-Marsteller where she served on crisis management teams for the Oklahoma City bombing, Ryder Systems, Inc. and the Atlanta Olympic Games. In 2005, she started her own company, Blink Entertainment, to build innovative campaigns that fuse entertainment content with brands or causes. Since its inception, Blink has worked on over 50 films including The Nanny Diaries, Fly Me to the Moon, Never Back Down, Motherhood, The Great Debaters and the documentary The Lottery

Rachel Sterne (pictured above) is CEO of GroundReport.com, a global citizen news platform that empowers anyone to publish original, intelligent reporting. She founded the platform in 2006 with the mission to democratize the media and help the world share its stories. To date, GroundReport has broken original news on the Iranian protests, Mumbai terrorism attacks and Beijing Olympics. She is also the Founding Principal of Upward Group, a public relations consulting firm specializing in digital media strategy for startups, nonprofits and arts ventures. Named one of America's Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs by Business Week, Sterne has discussed citizen journalism for CNN Money, NBC Universal, FOX News and The Aspen Institute.

Amy Beer, Moderator
is a social media and interactive advertising executive working with Scienceblogs.com and its partner, NationalGeographic.com. With over 130 international bloggers and 2.3million unique visitors every month, ScienceBlogs.com is the largest conversation about science, technology and medicine on the Web. As the VP of Advertising, Amy works with a variety of clients to help them create a credible, authentic voice in the interactive network of bloggers. She has over 15 years of experience in the interactive sector and has produced social media, mobile applications and video on the Web for companies as diverse as, TVGuide.com, GE, Shell, Dow, Sanofi-Aventis, Creative Bubble and iXL. Amy is currently a faculty member at CUNY and teaches classes on Social Media techniques.
