NYWIFT Announces the 2016 Fall Scholarship Recipients

Four second-year graduate film students to receive financial assistance to pursue their own projects

NEW YORK, NY (October 3, 2016) – New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) is pleased to announce the latest recipients of NYWIFT Scholarships. The NYWIFT Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 to provide financial assistance to second-year women students enrolled in graduate film programs. NYWIFT provides a $2,500 scholarship each year to a second-year female film student at the City College of New York, Columbia University and New York University. This year, NYWIFT is also offering a new scholarship to a student from the new innovative Stony Brook/Killer Films MFA in Film program. Students are nominated by faculty at their respective institutions.

The recipients are:

Haley Anderson (New York University)
Yvonne Ng (City College of New York)
Hanna Leigh (Columbia University)
Emily Laue (Stony Brook/Killer Films)

“One of the key ways we further our mission of championing and supporting women in the industry is through the NYWIFT Scholarship Fund,” said NYWIFT Executive Terry Lawler. “We look forward to welcoming these accomplished young women into the NYWIFT community.”

The financial assistance provided by these scholarships allows these future media makers to pursue their own projects, while also giving them access to the one-of-a-kind networking and professional development opportunities for which NYWIFT, the preeminent entertainment industry association for women in New York, is known. Past scholarship recipients have gone on to diverse and illustrious careers. Since its inception, the Scholarship Fund has provided assistance to over 50 students.

In the Spring, NYWIFT also provides an award to a graduating senior from the School of Visual Arts and the Sabrina Wright-Gilliar Scholarship, established last year and named for the legendary props master, to a female high school senior graduating from the Academy for Careers in Television and Film (TvF).
