The NYWIFT New York | Puerto Rico Collaborative Media Pipeline supports culturally significant work by filmmakers practicing in Puerto Rico, connected to the island by birth or heritage, who are creating a project related to Puerto Rico or developing and/or shooting a project on the island. As part of the NYWIFT Creative Workforce Initiative, the NY | PR Collaborative Media Pipeline supports mid-career industry executives and creatives, both above- and below-the-line.
This program fosters a unique community of filmmakers dedicated to creative work connected to Puerto Rico through grant programs, screenings, film festival events, mentorship, masterclasses, convenings, and peer events.
NYWIFT launched the NY | PR Collaborative Media Pipeline in 2022, with early support for two films scheduled for completion in 2027: Coquito by Bienvenida Matías and El Pueblo vs. Austeridad / The People vs. Austerity by Vivian Vázquez Irizarry & Gretchen Hildebran. More information on these films is available on the NYWIFT website: https://www.nywift.org/nywift-good-pitch-2022/
In 2026, NYWIFT expanded this program with industry events in New York and Puerto Rico and a grant program supporting four films selected from over 100 applicants by a jury of industry leaders. Each film receives financial support, individual mentorship, access to a variety of programs, and NYWIFT membership.
Other program highlights include:
- Masterclasses led by award-winning documentary and narrative directors
- Industry convenings in both New York and Puerto Rico
- Film festival programs
- Film screenings
The NYWIFT New York | Puerto Rico Collaborative Media Pipeline Initiative is supported by the Mellon Foundation.
