Synopsis

Say the name Oliver Stone and you get a reaction. Once the firebrand voice of America’s radical left and the country’s most political filmmaker, he now finds himself in uncertain territory — his legacy hanging in the balance.

Oliver Stone: Chasing the Lie takes us inside the mind of a man obsessed with uncovering — and sometimes embodying — the contradictions of history. Through candid, unsparing interviews with a 79-year-old Stone, he finally tells his side of the story: his meteoric rise, Hollywood’s ambivalence, and the cost of refusing to trade truth for acceptance.

Led by filmmaker Audrey Rosenberg, whose rare, unguarded rapport with Stone began in 2017, the film peels back the layers of his myth — the soldier, the provocateur, the exile within his own industry. We’ll hear from his closest collaborators, his ex-wife and current wife, family, friends, and actors who have lived inside his vision.

Through a visceral blend of archival footage and iconic film moments, Chasing the Lie revisits a body of work that redefined American cinema — while confronting the shadows it left behind. Has Stone’s fury at American hypocrisy taken him too far? Is the same defiance that made him essential now his undoing?

This is not just a story about the power of cinema. It’s a battle for the soul of one of the most iconic filmmakers of our time.
