Judith Gaffney is a filmmaker, cultural entrepreneur, and educator whose work lives at the intersection of fashion, history, and social impact. She is the Producer and Director of the feature documentary Threads of Legacy, a cinematic exploration of South African designer Sonwabile Ndamase and the cultural significance of the iconic “Madiba shirt” worn by Nelson Mandela during South Africa’s democratic transition.
With a background in business, fashion, and strategic communications, Judith brings a multidisciplinary lens to storytelling. Her creative work centers on global identity, legacy, and the power of cultural expression as political language. Through Threads of Legacy, she examines how fashion functions as memory, resistance, and reconciliation.
In addition to filmmaking, Judith is the Founder and CEO of Culture Trees, a contemporary fashion brand, and CTZ Designs, a safety apparel and uniform company. She is also an adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where she teaches strategic communications and technology-driven storytelling to emerging professionals.
Judith previously served as Assistant Director for the independent film Tried By Fire, expanding her experience in narrative production and on-set leadership. Her work consistently bridges creative vision with community empowerment, highlighting underrepresented voices and global cultural narratives.
She is currently completing production on Threads of Legacy, with filming taking place in New York and South Africa.
