Congratulations to the NYWIFT members included in the 2025 Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival lineup! We are thrilled to see 9 members of our community with projects featured at the festival this year.
The festival takes place August 1st – 9th, 2025, in-person at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center. Tickets and packages can be purchased from the official website.
Showings of different films, both full feature and short, are presented throughout the day, starting at 11:00 am. Additionally, speakers and Q&As with different directors, producers, and actors featured at this year’s festival occur each day.

Casting Associate – NYWIFT Member Emily Fleischer
Set in New York City, this film follows a music tycoon played by Denzel Washington as he is targeted by a ransom plot, forcing him to reevaluate his morals in his new life-or-death circumstances.

Chocolate with Sprinkles

Good Home Training

HARLEM FRAGMENTS

Based on true events, this film tells the story of a Black family in Harlem falling apart during the 2008 recession. MVAAFF describes it as “a natural disaster so mesmerizing you can’t look away from the tragedy.”

Hoops, Hopes & Dreams

This film tells of Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights activists who used basketball courts to connect with young voters and the current political campaigns that reflect their strategies.

Black Longevity

Black Longevity centers a group of Black elders sharing their life philosophies, lessons, and experiences as they embrace the fullness of their lives and livelihoods. The film is a celebration of love, authenticity, and the vibrancy of life learned through the resilience of those who came before.
