SYNOPSIS:
FOOL’S GOLD
FOOLS GOLD is a feature length experimental documentary, which explores the theme of greed through weaving together popular legends and stories of the livelihood and moral fiber of a once wealthy small and rural American community, after a corporation creates a mass layoff and exodus. We are subjected to the effect of progress and social responsibility upon nature and humankind.
FOOLS GOLD will combine factual interviews with landscape footage and live action. History will unfold in parallel stories — from a modern take on CAIN & ABEL to Zombie movies and Frank Norris’ novel McTEAGUE, incorporated with scientific information about the area’s environments, to reference the theme of “greed”; drawing no concrete conclusions.
All images and audio will be interwoven composite shots made with optical printing effects that alter speed, sound, and color. Shot on different stocks to achieve different color and textures, 35MM film will be used for landscape and aerial shots and video for the rest. The layering technique form shifting perspectives suggesting psychological dimensions.
S/tr:w/EET WALK
What innate qualities do shoes convey-especially if found on a prostitute's walk?
A pair of shoes found on a Dublin street that used to be a prostitute's walk and that still presents a horse fair, travel tangentially though Ireland, NYC, South Carolina, and Georgia. Moving between diverse landscapes, seemingly haphazard facts disclose historic and mythic connections.
An artist found the shoes used in S/tr:w/EET WALK on a Liffey que and incorporated their surrounding environment into her video. She then invited a dialogue with her work; and my video response connects directly to actual events
Strands of text about ideas latent in culture relate to each other; but not through a clear, simple concept. Historic facts, a personal story, the Irish Cinderella tale, excerpts from songs and WISE BLOOD, a newspaper review about monumental art, and feminist takes on eroticism & pornography connect intuitively.
BIO:
White’s work explores subjects of relationships of power and repression, sometimes drawing from ancient stories re-contextualized into meditations on the world in which we live, and the ramifications of inaction and stagnation. Influenced by art history, Eastern philosophy, psychological theory and her painting studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, her videos were shown in the United States, Germany, England, Ireland and China. Their content highlights nature, myth, dreams, archetypal imagery and language.
