Daniella Nowitz is an award-winning American cinematographer working across independent film and international television, with a visual approach rooted in character, place, and the emotional complexities of looking.
She became the first woman to win Israel’s Ophir Award, the country’s equivalent of the Academy Awards, for Best Cinematography, for *Asia*, starring Shira Haas and Israel’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. She later became the first woman to receive the Israeli Television Academy Award for Best Cinematography, winning in two consecutive years for CANNESERIES-winning *Carthago* and Netflix’s *Bad Boy*, a global Top 10 series nominated for an International Emmy. Her work has also received cinematography honors at the Tribeca and Jerusalem Film Festivals.
Her credits include HBO Max’s *Normali*, *Live Cargo*, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Robert Wisdom and Dree Hemingway, and her latest series, the cross-country thriller *The Escape*, starring Yehuda Levi and produced for Keshet International, set for release in early 2027.
Daniella began her career as a still photographer, learning photography from her father, a National Geographic photographer, before spending several years working as a documentary editor. Wanting to bring those disciplines together, she moved to Los Angeles to study cinematography at the American Film Institute Conservatory.
Fluent in five languages, Daniella has spent much of her career working across countries and cultures. Her cinematography is grounded in close observation, naturalism, and a sensitivity to the relationship between people and the environments they inhabit.
Daniella is based in Brooklyn with her husband and two young children. She is represented by CAA.
