Jennifer Mary Mears is a New York–based director, SAG-AFTRA actor and Teamsters Local 817 location scout whose work bridges performance-driven storytelling with richly textured environments. She trained at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting before building more than a decade of experience working across major television and film productions.
Her production credits include Law & Order: Organized Crime, Billions, The Night Agent, Modern Love, Mozart in the Jungle, Blue Bloods, HBO’s The Wizard of Lies, and the feature films A Thousand and One and The Greatest Showman. Through her work in studio production and location, Mears developed a deep understanding of how physical spaces shape character, atmosphere and narrative.
As a director, Mears creates intimate, character-driven stories rooted in family, memory and intergenerational healing. Her work often explores Black womanhood, sisterhood and the emotional inheritance passed between generations, grounding her visual storytelling in the lived textures of real environments.
Her music video RAW placed second in the Made in New York competition and screened at the Portland Film Festival. Her debut narrative, MAMA, a Harlem-set drama exploring Black sisterhood and inherited trauma, advanced to the second round of the 2026 Sundance Institute Development Track.
Drawing on her background across acting and production, Mears approaches directing with a performance-centered lens while shaping cinematic worlds informed by years inside the professional studio system.
