Full Bio
Ricki “Ricasso” Nelson is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker building a career at the intersection of storytelling and advocacy. She has over five years in the film industry with roles such as Production Coordinator, Extras Casting Assistant, and supporting Line Producers, Showrunners/Directors on projects such as The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Supremes at Earl’s All You-Can-Eat, Hightown, and more. As Executive Assistant to writer/director Tina Mabry, she works at the center of high-level development and production.
As a filmmaker, Ricki's short film Thank You for Your Time — a surreal exploration of being a Black woman in corporate spaces — has been accepted into 15 festivals and received multiple awards, including the inaugural Champa & Vasant Patel Carolina Filmmaker Award at the Charlotte Film Festival. Ricki is also the founder of Black Creatives Social Club, an organization dedicated to developing Black screenwriters and filmmakers through workshops and community-building programming
Ricki holds a B.A. in Film Studies and a B.F.A. in Creative Writing.
