Vanessa Hope is an award-winning director, writer and producer of internationally minded fiction and nonfiction films, focusing to date on the U.S., China, Afghanistan and Taiwan.

Vanessa’s current documentary, Invisible Nation (www.invisiblenation.net), follows Taiwan’s first female president, Tsai Ing-Wen, over her two terms in office through 2024, portraying the story of Taiwan’s democratization, the threat it faces from China, and the spirit of resistance, resilience, and progress within Taiwanese society. After a groundbreaking “NonDē” US release and award-winning festival and broadcast play across many territories, Invisible Nation was released theatrically in Taiwan on June 13, 2025, and quickly became the 3rd highest grossing documentary film in Taiwan’s history.
