Deborah C. Hoard is President of PhotoSynthesis Productions and has been making documentary films with a special focus on social justice and education for 35 years. Her work has won hundreds of media awards and has screened at festivals, theaters and broadcast worldwide. Her film THEY CALL IT MYANMAR premiered at IDFA and was called _x001C_a thing of beauty... one of the top documentaries of the year_x001D_ by Roger Ebert. Her film about Cambodia, ANGKOR AWAKENS, was called _x001C_absolutely harrowing_x001D_ by the New York Times and _x001C_intimate and deeply humane_x001D_ by the Washington Post. Both MYANMAR and ANGKOR were NY Time Critics Picks. She recently released RE:THINKING: A Film about Education in America, which asks the question, _x001C_What if we taught our students how to think, instead of what to think?_x001D_ Her film and high school curriculum CIVIL WARRIORS tells the true story of 26 black men from upstate New York who fought in the US Colored Troops in the Civil War.
