Avani Parikh Dhar is an NYC-based filmmaker, casting director, and producer originally from India, with over 20 years of experience in independent film. Her career spans casting, production, and filmmaking, giving her a well-rounded perspective on the creative process. Having lived and worked across four continents, she is known for authentic, inclusive casting and a passion for stories that challenge convention, amplify underrepresented voices, and offer perspectives often overlooked by mainstream cinema.
Avani began her career working on India's groundbreaking feature exploring same-sex relationships and HIV/AIDS, an experience that shaped her commitment to socially relevant storytelling. She enjoys collaborating with emerging filmmakers and bringing ambitious, character-driven projects to life on lean budgets.
The films she has worked on have screened at prestigious festivals including Cannes, Slamdance, AFI Fest, Dances with Films, Tasveer, and the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).
