LAURA LAU graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University with a degree in writing.



Lau produced and co-wrote the feature film Grind (1997), a seething, noirish drama about an ex-con, (Billy Crudup), whose affair with his brother's wife, (Adrienne Shelly), sparks a series of tragic consequences. Amanda Peet also stars. Grind was released theatrically by Overseas Filmgroup and Castle Hill Productions.



Lau's second film, Open Water (2004), told the harrowing true life tale of a vacationing couple on a dive excursion who are accidentally left behind in shark infested waters. The film screened at the Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Lionsgate Films for worldwide distribution. Made without a crew, Lau produced, co-wrote, co-directed, and shot the film along with partner Chris Kentis. With a budget of $120,000, the film went on to gross more than $55 million worldwide.
