Weekend Sound Designer, Podcasts (Temporary)

Reuters is looking for a sound designer with exceptional audio editing skills, creative sound design instincts, and a strong grasp of news storytelling for a TEMPORARY role to assist with the weekend expansion of our flagship podcast. Please note this shift pattern for this role is specifically to cover weekends.

You will be working with one of the world’s largest and most trusted news organizations to help shape the sound of our flagship Reuters World News podcast. Your work will bring clarity, texture, and emotional depth to stories that matter, helping listeners connect with the news in a powerful way.

You should be passionate about audio storytelling and have a keen ear for how sound can elevate journalism.


About the Role:

As a Sound Designer , you will:

  • Design and mix audio for daily podcast episodes, ensuring clarity, consistency, and creativity, working under tight deadlines to deliver timely, polished episodes.
  • Collaborate with producers and reporters to enhance storytelling through sound by sourcing, editing, and integrating music, archival audio, and sound effects.
  • Must be confident in waveform & multitrack workflows, spectral editing, noise reduction, and text-to-audio editing in Descript.
  • Maintain high technical standards for audio quality and delivery through interview mixing and voice post-production, ensure best practices in mixing and mastering fundamentals, utilize creative fades/automations/FX.
  • Help shape the sonic identity of the podcast.
  • Work a schedule from Saturday to Wednesday starting early mornings.


About You:

To be our Sound Designer , you will likely have:

  • Experience designing sound for podcasts, radio, or other audio-first media.
  • Advanced proficiency with audio editing software (Adobe Audition & Descript preferred).
  • A strong sense of pacing, tone, and narrative structure.
  • Familiarity with loudness standards and best practices for podcast audio.
  • An understanding of how to clean, EQ, compress, de-ess, gate, and level dialogue for interviews, podcasts, or docu-style audio.
  • Basic mastering chain knowledge (EQ > comp > limiter), LUFS awareness, and delivering broadcast-ready mixes.
  • Understanding of how to make dynamic mixes with volume rides, crossfades, panning, and effects like reverb or filter sweeps.
  • Remote recording tool familiarity, including experience with Riverside, SquadCast, and Descript Rooms, with an understanding of dual-end recording, syncing, and backup protocols.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to take creative direction.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • A passion for news and current affairs.
