ABOUT ADIFF & ARTMATTAN FILMS

The African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) and ArtMattan Films seek a Media & Audience Engagement Coordinator to help expand the visibility of our films, festivals, and cultural programs.

Founded in New York in 1993, ADIFF presents films from the United States and around the world exploring the human experience of people of color, with particular focus on people of African descent and Indigenous communities. ArtMattan Films distributes independent films from across the African diaspora to theaters, educational institutions, community organizations, and digital platforms.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position combines press outreach (50%) and social media promotion (50%). The successful candidate will help increase awareness of ADIFF festivals, ArtMattan film releases, virtual film series, and special events through consistent media outreach, audience engagement, and digital communications.

This is a hands-on execution role. Strategy, messaging, and curatorial framing are developed collaboratively by the Co-Directors and staff. The Coordinator's role is to ensure that programs, films, and initiatives reach the appropriate audiences through effective outreach, follow-up, and digital promotion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Press & Outreach (50%)

• Distribute press releases to film, arts, and cultural media contacts.

• Conduct email and phone follow-up with journalists, editors, producers, and community organizations.

• Assist in securing media coverage, interviews, calendar listings, newsletter mentions, podcast appearances, and community announcements.

• Identify and add new media and outreach contacts to ADIFF's database.

• Maintain outreach tracking systems and contact records.

• Support outreach to universities, cultural organizations, consulates, and community partners as appropriate.

• Assist with media coordination for festivals, screenings, filmmaker appearances, and special events.

• Track outreach activity and maintain organized records of media placements and partner amplifications.

Social Media & Audience Engagement (50%)

• Develop and implement content calendars for festivals, film releases, and virtual film series.

• Create and schedule social media content using Canva and other digital tools.

• Adapt trailers, filmmaker interviews, reviews, and existing promotional materials for social media.

• Monitor audience engagement and assist with online community management.

• Support email marketing campaigns and digital audience outreach.

• Prepare campaign recap reports and basic performance analytics.

• Assist with social media promotion before, during, and after festivals and events.

• Help expand awareness of ADIFF and ArtMattan programming through consistent and audience-focused digital communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Interest in independent film, arts, culture, and African diaspora communities.

• Experience in communications, public relations, marketing, audience engagement, community outreach, or related fields preferred.

• Experience in independent film marketing, film distribution, festival promotion, audience development, arts organizations, or cultural programming is a plus.

• Experience with social media management and digital content creation.

• Experience with Canva and social media scheduling tools.

• Familiarity with Kit, Hootsuite, Google Workspace, and AI-assisted content tools.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

WORK SCHEDULE

20 hours per week.

-The position will begin as primarily remote and generally requires approximately 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

-Specific working hours will be determined based on organizational needs and the selected candidate's availability. All regular working hours must be completed during normal business hours.

-The role may include attendance at film screenings, meetings, festivals, and special events. As organizational needs evolve, the position may require at least one day per week of in-person work or meetings.

-Additional evening or weekend availability may occasionally be required during major festival periods and special events with advance notice.

COMPENSATION

• $1,600 per month during a three-month probation period.

• Monthly evaluations will be conducted during the probation period.

• Compensation will be reviewed at the conclusion of the probation period.

• Salary range after probation: $1,600–$2,000 per month, depending on performance, responsibilities, and organizational needs.

• Additional hours may become available during major festival periods, particularly ADIFF New York, with compensation adjusted accordingly.

• Meaningful media, community, and cultural amplification of ADIFF and ArtMattan programs.

• Reliability, responsiveness, and strong organizational skills.

• Ability to learn ADIFF's programs, audiences, and communication style and work independently within that framework.
