Start in Film, TV, Commercials & Live Events: Freelance Teleprompter Technician
Majestic Prompting | NYC / Tri-State Area
Are you looking for a real entry point into New York’s film, television, commercial, corporate-video, or live-event world?
Majestic Prompting is seeking dependable, motivated entry-level production professionals to train as Freelance Teleprompter Technicians / Operators. This is an opportunity to work on real productions and live events while learning a specialized technical role that puts you in direct contact with camera crews, producers, clients, presenters, and production teams.
This is not a desk job or a passive internship. You will be part of the working crew, handle valuable equipment, support productions where timing matters, and learn how to solve practical problems in real time.
You do not need previous teleprompting experience. We will train the right candidates. What matters most is that you are responsible, calm under pressure, technically curious, able to work independently, and willing to take ownership of the details.
What you will learn and do:
Learn to set up and operate professional teleprompting systems for filmed productions and live events
Pick up and return equipment from our Manhattan warehouse
Load, unload, unpack, set up, pack, and safely transport equipment to jobs in New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Long Island, Connecticut, and other East Coast locations
Work independently with teleprompting cases generally weighing 5–25 pounds
Learn correct cable wrapping, hardware setup, inventory procedures, and safe handling of specialized equipment
Assist and communicate professionally with production teams, clients, camera operators, venue staff, talent, and presenters
Learn to troubleshoot calmly when time is limited and there is pressure to keep the production moving
What we need from you:
You show up on time, follow through, and can be trusted with important responsibilities
You have a practical, positive “can-do” mindset
You can keep your cool and remain courteous when things are moving quickly
You are comfortable working independently after training
You are computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel
You can type at least 25 WPM
You can lift and move equipment cases weighing approximately 5–25 pounds
You are available for a schedule that may include weekdays, evenings, some weekends, and changing production hours
You are willing to travel around the Tri-State area and, occasionally, farther along the East Coast
A driver’s license is a major plus
You can arrive in clean, client-ready attire: suit, dress slacks or khakis, polo or black button-down shirt, and black dress shoes or clean black sneakers
Scheduling, training, and travel expenses
This is freelance production work, so schedules vary. Some jobs may be short, while others are longer production days. Applicants should be prepared for a typical workday of approximately 10 hours, as well as occasional early, late, evening, or weekend schedules.
The number of available jobs can change throughout the year. Work is becoming more frequent, but production volume has historically been seasonal and depends on client and event schedules. This position is best for someone who can remain flexible and respond when opportunities arise.
Selected applicants receive hands-on introductory training with an experienced technician, covering professional teleprompting equipment, production workflow, equipment care, and client-facing standards. Strong candidates may be invited to join our freelance roster for paid assignments.
Majestic Prompting reimburses approved transportation costs associated with assignments, including:
Transportation to and from the job
Parking
Tolls
Mileage
Rental-car expenses when a rental vehicle is used or approved for an assignment
Job offers, scheduling details, and availability requests may be communicated by text, email, or phone call. You should be comfortable checking these methods regularly and confirming your availability promptly.
A background in student film, theater, campus events, AV, photography, broadcast, customer service, hospitality, athletics, technical theater, or event production is helpful—but not required. We are most interested in applicants who are reliable, respectful, adaptable, and ready to learn.
Compensation:
Rate: $28/hour for the first 8 hours, with daily overtime after 8 hours at the applicable overtime rate
Pay schedule: Biweekly
Employment type: Part-time freelance / production hire
Approved transportation, mileage, parking, tolls, and qualifying rental-car expenses are reimbursed
Opportunities for ongoing work
Majestic Prompting is building a dependable freelance roster. Technicians who demonstrate reliability, technical aptitude, strong communication, careful equipment handling, and professional client service may be considered for recurring assignments and increased responsibility as work becomes available.
