Job Title: Development Associate


Reports to: Director of Development


About us:

The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) is a nonprofit cultural and educational institution located in Pleasantville, NY, dedicated to presenting the best of independent narrative, documentary, and world cinema, promoting visual literacy, and making film a vibrant part of the community.

The Development Associate will be an integral part of a dynamic team responsible for raising nearly $3 million annually in support of JBFC’s film, education, and artist programs. The Development Associate will provide vital support for key fundraising initiatives, including major gifts, foundation, corporate, government and board relations, planned giving, and special events.


Responsibilities: 

  • Generate correspondence/letters to solicit and renew major gifts. 
  • Enter all gifts in Tessitura (JBFC’s CRM system of record). Ensure that all donor engagement information is entered and updated in a timely manner.
  • Serve as Development’s internal point of contact regarding Development’s use of Tessitura and other systems.
  • Track acknowledgements of major gifts to assure prompt response. Draft and send all donor thank you letters, major donor membership cards, and related correspondence.
  • Create and maintain all development and campaign reports.
  • Create and maintain the Development Department‘s master calendar.
  • Assist in researching targeted prospects. Prepare donor and prospect profiles for review.
  • Assist in the coordination of fundraising events, including the annual gala. Provide key support for mailings, tracking RSVPs and contributions, and event logistics.
  • Provide logistical support for donor/cultivation events including receptions, dinners, and special film programs. (As a member of the Development team, the Development Associate is required to act as support for evening and weekend events from time to time.)
  • Manage communications and provide logistical support for board meetings.
  • Regularly update and maintain Development-focused areas of the JBFC website.
  • Coordinate all elements of bulk mailings, including invitations, planned giving campaigns, annual report, direct mail, and special appeals.
  • Proofread written communication to ensure material is effective and grammatically correct.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the Director of Development and/or the Executive Director.


Preferred Experience and Qualities:

  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Engaging interpersonal skills and a high level of discretion.
  • Computer skills that include a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with Tessitura, Canva, and/or Wordfly is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and to work independently with initiative.


Start date: ASAP

Salary range: $45,000-$50,000
