Duet-Care at Home
We are looking for engaging, compassionate individuals from the arts who are interested in supporting elder adults. A companion position can require just several hours per week, or as much as 30+ hours per week. This would be a great role for someone who is currently working in a creative field and is looking for some additional income from a meaningful job.
Duet, Care at Home is a companion care agency serving Manhattan, Northern Brooklyn, and parts of Queens and the Bronx. Our mission is to connect our elder clients with outstanding companions who can improve their quality of life through social engagement, meaningful activities, and help with daily tasks that get more difficult with age. This job does not require "hands-on" care such as dressing or bathing assistance.
Many of our clients are artists themselves, or lifelong patrons of the arts. They would benefit greatly from a strong connection to those working in the arts with whom they can share their life. This is not a position where you will be "left to your own devices" to support someone. You will receive ongoing support from our staff and social work team, as well as a detailed briefing on any client you meet.
Typical Activities and Responsibilities:
-Providing companionship to older adults and individuals with chronic conditions; this may include discussing current events or shared interests, or taking trips to cultural or entertainment venues
-Assisting with non-physical tasks such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, and light housework like folding laundry or throwing away leftover food items.
-Safety supervision, standby assistance with ambulation or certain other tasks, medication reminders, adherence to care plans
-For clients with dementia, you’ll need to communicate effectively, provide mental stimulation, and/or safety supervision as necessary.
PLEASE NOTE that you must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to work with us at this time. As we support a vulnerable population, we take great care in keeping them (and you) safe.
Please contact us if you have a passion for supporting others and an appreciation for the older generation. To apply please email us a relevant work resume and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in this position. Be sure to mention that you first saw this posting on NYWIFT, and we look forward to hearing from you!
