Member Screening Series – The Other F Word and The Beauty of Disaster

Join us for this month’s NYWIFT Member Screening Series showcasing the films The Other F Word by Caytha Jentis (Writer/Director/Executive Producer) and Susan Ades (Editor) and The Beauty of Disaster by Janet Stilson (Writer/Executive Producer) and Jennifer Wollan (Co-Producer). The filmmakers will be available for a Q&A immediately following the screening.

The series provides members with the opportunity to show their work in a theatrical setting. Screenings take place at Anthology Film Archives, followed by networking at a nearby bar/restaurant.

The Other F Word is a character driven edgy comedic micro series about four women friends in NYC who deal with the liberating and sobering experiences of mid-life. It’s life after Sex & the City or Girls for grown-ups. The cast features Reiko Aylesworth, Steve Guttenberg and Judy Gold. Judy Gold and several other female cast members will be present for the Q&A, along with the filmmaker.

Caytha Jentis (Writer/Director/Executive Producer) is an award-winning independent filmmaker. Jentis’ features include Bad Parents, about suburban sports parents, starring Janeane Garofalo, Cheri Oteri, Christopher Titus, Michael Boatman and Kristen Johnston (Cinedigm); And Then Came Love starring Vanessa Williams and Eartha Kitt (Warner Bros); and The Onestarring Jon Prescott (TLA Releasing). Jentis was recently selected as one of Good Housekeeping Magazine‘s 50 over 50. She is also a member of the Producers Guild and the Writers Guild. 

Susan B. Ades (Editor) has been editing films for award-winning directors since 2002. Her first feature film For The Next 7 Generations (Filmmakers Carol and Bruce Hart) and first short dance documentary Nrityagram: For the Love of Dance(Filmmaker Nan Melville) screened in over two dozen festivals and received multiple awards. Ades’ recent documentary feature films include The Rescue of the Jews of Syria (2014) and Lawrence ‘Reed’ Hansen: The Sacrosanct Accompanist(2016). Susan considers dance films and comedies as her specialties, and is extremely proud to have edited The Other F Word, her latest comedy tv/web series.

A psychic’s swindle tests the bonds of love between two sisters in The Beauty of Disaster, a romantic dramedy. The story revolves around Claire, an uptight marketing executive who has loopy visions that keep getting her into big trouble, and Cleo, a not-so-gifted actress who pretends to be a fortuneteller. Franklin, a brainy detective who’s blind to his own handsomeness, threatens Claire with a nice long stay in a prison hellhole when Cleo steals a necklace from a loopy older broad. At its core, the film is about the beauty that can occur in moments of utter catastrophe.

Janet Stilson (Writer/Executive Producer) is a writer of film scripts and novels as well as a journalist. Her feature film script Jaguar Trail was selected for NYWIFT and IRIS’ inaugural The Writer’s Lab for women over 40 in 2015, funded by Meryl Streep. It competed with nearly 3,500 other scripts for that honor and was among 12 scripts selected. Stilson executive produced, wrote and played a role in The Beauty of Disaster. The short screened at the Pasadena International Film Festival and the New York International Shorts Festival. It is an official selection of the upcoming HollyShorts screening in Los Angeles.
