Every six months or so, I always find myself looking over my website, Actors Access account and IMDB page to see if everything is up to date and current.
This time around, as I read my bio, I could feel a heaviness. I just didn’t connect with what I was reading. So, I decided on a revamp.
Here are two questions to consider when revising your own bio:
- Should I use first person or third person? I personally love first-person structure, because I feel it really allows me to connect with my audience and vice-versa. I found third person added a distance between me and my audience.
- What are the who, what, when and how? Allow your audience to get to know you, but no need to elaborate too much. Use your bio to tell your audience who you are as an actor. What has been life-changing/transformational in your work? When and how did that happen? Include how you work and what you’re passionate about.
Marinate on these thoughts and one more: How can you spice up your online bio to allow more connectedness between you and your audience?
