“International Parity for Women Directors: The Legal Strategy” is a cyber meeting place for women and men around the world who support equity for women in film, television and digital media. They are looking into civil rights laws to help women consider legal action when confronted by gender discrimination.
Looking Forward To: the first Movie Night with Tangerine Entertainment, an emerging production company dedicated to providing opportunities to women filmmakers. The first movie is Sleepless in Seattle, one of my favorites, on Tuesday, June 25th – 20 years after the film was released. Tangerine Ent’s Movie Nights encourages women to get together around the country, watch a movie all on the same night, tweet and exchange ideas online about the film. Be there! Welcome to NYWIFT, Maria Giese! Maria Giese is an American film director, screenwriter, and longtime advocate for equity for women directors in Hollywood. She wrote and directed the feature films When Saturday Comes (starring Sean Bean) and Hunger (based on the classic Knut Hamsun novel). A member of the Directors Guild of America for over 25 years, Giese is widely recognized for her role in initiating the 2014 ACLU and 2015 EEOC investigations into systemic discrimination against women directors.
