After years living in the US, a filmmaker returns to her hometown to document the bond between her family and the maguey plant that has sustained them for generations. As she observes the deep-rooted bond built on mutual care, she questions her decision to leave, yet learns from the plant that her heart can root in new soil and still stay true to where it first beat.

Miguel Amadeo is a beloved Puerto Rican Salsa pioneer keeping New York’s longest-running record shop alive as it faces an uncertain future in The Bronx.

 

13.4 Seconds to Nowhere

ESPN Festival Strategist – NYWIFT Member Maria Delgado

13.4 Seconds To Nowhere highlights the deeply personal narrative of a Puerto Rican athlete whose Olympic dreams were shattered by a hurricane. Once defined by a 13.4-second 100-meter race time she, years later, seeks to redefine her purpose. Her quest to overcome this obstacle is not for glory, but for essential self-discovery and healing.

 

Shooting Stars

ESPN Festival Strategist – NYWIFT Member Maria Delgado

Shooting Stars follows Adrián Solano, a 22-year-old Venezuelan in search of meaning who inadvertently enters the 2017 Nordic World Ski Championships despite having never seen snow in his life. Training on roller skis in one of the hottest places on Earth, his journey to the slopes unravels into a viral sports fiasco. As the internet crowns him ‘The World’s Worst Skier,’ Adrián reveals that greatness isn’t measured in medals, but in the courage to keep going.
