The NYWIFT Women Crush Wednesdays Podcast Team works so hard to bring the most informative, empowering, entertaining, and fun interviews to our listeners. Today we are thrilled to highlight our podcast team co-host and contributor Leah Curney.
Leah Curney is a writer, director, producer, and performer. Her short film 6:18 to Omaha won the inaugural CinemaStreet Women’s Short Screenplay Competition and she was a semi-finalist for the 2019 Made in NY Writers Room Fellowship. She’s directed several award-winning short films and is an accomplished video producer/director in the corporate space, creating content for a global finance company. Her performing work spans television (God Friended Me, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Blindspot), stage (Manhattan Theatre Club, Guthrie Theater), independent film and new media. She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA, New York Women in Film &Television (NYWIFT), and the PANO network.

What is your role with the podcast team, how long have you been involved, and how did you get started?
I joined the podcast team in 2018 after participating with the NYWIFT communications committee for a while, and have had the pleasure to be both a co-host and contributor since then.
What do you enjoy most about the podcast and how has this journey been for you?
One of the most rewarding parts for me is getting to interview extraordinary women and bring their inspiring insights and stories to our audience. That and connecting with my fellow podcast team members who so generously contribute their time and talents and are always looking for ways to reach new people and have a greater impact.

What else are you working on outside of the podcast?
A feature screenplay, a couple of shorts, a full-time position as a corporate video producer, and spending time with my husband and adorable 16-month-old daughter.

She trained at the William Esper Studio, graduated from the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) improv training program, serves on the Junior Board of TADA! Youth Theater, and is developing her first documentary, American Daughter: Stories We Carry. She is also an active NYWIFT member who values collaboration, mentorship, and connection.

Bella Rieth is a first-generation Brazilian-German, NYC-based director and producer, and a graduate of the School of Visual Arts who also studied at the Atlantic Acting School Conservatory. Before film, she trained at the New England Conservatory and performed in theatre internationally, building a life of storytelling that eventually pulled her behind the camera. Her recent shorts, including Lottie, Poor Creature, Ebba, and Icaro, have played at festivals from Tokyo to Santa Cruz to Florence. Alongside her own films, Bella produces and field produces across narrative, commercial, music video, and documentary projects throughout New York and beyond.

Welcome to NYWIFT, Eve Rouverol! Eve came to filmmaking after a career as a newspaper reporter, commercial writer, and teacher of students with disabilities. After her children left for college (she is a single, widowed mother), she was able to return to college to pursue her first love, film. In addition to writing/directing student narrative and documentary shorts at CA College of the Arts and Emerson, Eve wrote, produced and directed the 35-minute film The Muse starring her actor daughter Madeline Rouverol. The film was nominated for Best Student Director at New Bedford Film Festival in 2023. Her screenplays Writer's Block and Lolita Redux have been shortlisted by BlueCat and Scriptapalooza. Writer's Block was selected for participation in the 2026 Stowe Narrative Labs. Lolita Redux was a semifinalist for Stowe Labs’ Writers’ Retreat Fellowship.
