The Walking Dead: Dead City Tribeca/NYC Take Over

By Tammy Reese

One of the best red carpets I’ve ever covered as a journalist hands down to date is the iconic moment of covering The Walking Dead: Dead City world premiere during the 2023 Tribeca Festival.

Co-Stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are so talented, kind, and humble, as well as so approachable and respectful to the press and their fans. By now, you all know The Walking Dead  is my favorite television series ever and to have represented NYWIFT for the launch of this highly anticipated series is a dream come true. I am honored to tell you all about it.

When my email notification alerted me that I was invited and confirmed to the The Walking Dead: Dead City World Premiere at Tribeca Festival on June 13 my heart skipped a beat. Not only was this a professional highlight in my career but as a true fan of the TWD Universe, it was a personal moment of fulfillment that will forever be dear to my heart. Thank you, AMC! Thank you, FerenComm!

The Walking Dead: Dead City follows the popular Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) characters traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.

The series also stars Gaius Charles and Željko Ivanek, Mahina Napoleon, and Michael Anthony  among others. Eli Jorné, who has been a writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead for multiple seasons serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series, which is overseen by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead Universe. Cohan and Morgan also serve as executive producers, along with Brian Bockrath.

I obtained some epic interviews on the red carpet. Check out my interviews and awesome content with the cast and attendees below.

If the red carpet wasn’t enough. Fellow NYWIFT Member LaKisa Renee and I also were told that we gave the best interviews on the red carpet and were personally invited to hang out with Walkers (Zombies) along with cast members Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, and Mahina Napolean the next day at Katz’s Deli where we had lunch and got to take an iconic group photo!

Catch some highlights here.

Variety reports that AMC+ had its most watched season premiere ever with the debut of The Walking Dead: Dead City! I have pre-screened all six episodes of The Walking Dead: Dead City and I recommend watching because you are going to be blown away, jaw dropped by this amazing script, and cast. There are so many twists and turns like you’ve never seen before in The Walking Dead Universe and I am so here for it! Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on a monumental job well done.
