In addition to being an early NYWIFT member, costume designer Ruth Morley was behind the iconic looks of several characters now considered legendary in cinema history. A child refugee from Vienna, in the 1950’s she studied under German-American painter Hans Hofmann and went on to design costumes for opera and ballet before moving into theater, film and television. Her work can be seen in such iconic films as The Hustler (1961), The Miracle Worker (1962), Taxi Driver (1976), Kramer vs Kramer (1979), One from the Heart (1981), The Chosen (1981), Tootsie (1982) and Ghost (1990). In the 1980’s, she began teaching and mentoring costume design graduate students at Brandeis and NYU. On March 12, join esteemed panelists Deborah Nadoolman Landis and Susan Gammie (Emmy award-winning costume designer, protege and friend of Ruth Morley), with moderator Julie Salamon (author of The Devil’s Candy, Net of Dreams) for a discussion about Ruth Morley’s career and her impact on the field of costume design. Bronx Independent Cinema Center is a nonprofit 501c3 organization established in 2022 with the mission to develop a micro cinema center for inspiration, community engagement and workforce development. They aim to end the cinema desert in the Bronx by supporting local youth and young adult filmmakers, film workers and cinephiles by offering them access to a third space to further their careers and ambitions.

This week-long festival, organized by Colored Colors, Digho, and G6 Digital Media, offers over 50 free, accessible programs, including live performances, hands-on workshops, and family-friendly activities. Highlights include a special performance by Brooklyn band, Blanket Approval at Spotlight at The Paramount, plus exhibitions and events at the Heckscher Museum of Art, the Whaling Museum, and the African American Museum. The EPIC Originals: Revolutions and Revelations, an evening of powerful, original performances created and performed by EPIC’s Neurodivergent and Disabled artists, on March 22 at Joe’s Pub from 4-7 PM. This annual EPIC Underground showcase features original songs and is part of EPIC Players’ 10th anniversary, marking a decade of championing inclusion, artistic excellence, and authentic representation in the performing arts.
Featuring original song, spoken word, personal narrative, stand-up, and poetry, Revolutions and Revelations transforms lived experience into powerful art. From personal revolutions to life-changing revelations, each performance offers an intimate window into creativity, fortitude, and self-expression.
