An award-winning, accomplished and truly versatile cinematographer/director, Eliana Alvarez Martinez' enthusiastic Have-Camera-Will-Travel outlook, has won her a steady stream of documentary, commercial, fiction and television engagements.
As Field Director/Cinematographer of the NAT GEO WILD series, Caught in the Act, Martinez loves logging thousands of miles around North America, capturing cinematic tales of surprising animal encounters.
Her always sensitive interview lighting brings out the warm humor of the Black Public Media series, Black Folks Don't, as well as the inner beauty of the felonious contestants in the Brazilian beauty pageant of feature documentary, Miss Prison (in production).
Her keenly observed verite work in Indian Summer helped that documentary land berths in both DOC NYC and the PBS Online Film Festival.
With contrastingly stylized recreations, she contributed to help elevate, Wrong Kind of Love to a special Best of Festival screening at The American Documentary Festival, along with the Director's choice Award at Taos Shortz.
Alvarez' wildlife work brings out the unique character of each elephant in the Thai elephant orphanage featured in Makenzie Moon. It also carried her deep into the remote and rarely accessible wilds of Russia's Sakhalin Island wilderness following the island's famous endangered - and dangerous - bears.
As Director of photography in another recurring booking, Alvarez gets to capture the simple, unsung beauty of daily life in the Caribbean - along with the hidden, sometimes frightening, realities of the darker side of paradise for the St. Lucia-based television series, Sanford-Belle presents.
