(July 5, 1968 – August 9, 2024)
Susan Wojcicki, who served as YouTube’s chief executive officer for nine years, died at 56, her family announced.
Her husband Dennis Troper shared that her death came after she had been living with non-small cell lung cancer for two years.
Wojcicki worked in the tech industry for over twenty years. She was one of the first 20 employees at Google, which acquired YouTube in 2006 for $1.65billion. This came after, in 1998, she rented out the garage of her Menlo Park home to Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who at the time were Ph.D. students at Stanford University. She later led the company’s online advertising business and video service.
She was appointed CEO of YouTube in 2014, serving until resigning in February 2023. At the time, she explained she wanted to focus on her health and personal projects she was passionate about.
