The Roy W. Dean Film Grant is now accepting submissions. Now in its 31st year, the grant is offered by non-profit From the Heart Productions. Over three decades, the grant has awarded over $2,500,000 to filmmakers to help them complete their projects. In addition to the feature film grant, The Roy W. Dean Short Film Grant is now open for entries.  The grant offers the winner $3,000 and thousands more in donated services to help them complete their film. The grant seeks short films that are unique and that make a contribution to society. Grant is open to narrative fiction shorts, live action or animated, that are 40 minutes or less in length. Applications are currently open for the Bandung 2024-25 Residency. Presented by the Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) and The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), the residency is seeking artists who are interested in fostering solidarity between Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Black communities. As part of the year-long residency in New York, participants will receive a $3,000 honorarium⁠ and create a new or build upon an existing project that will inspire solidarity or create discourse between AAPI and Black communities⁠.

The call is now open for submissions to screen your project the Latinx Movie Nights Series. They will be accepting short films, music videos and web series that involve the Latino/X/A stories. Projects must have a runtime between 1 to 15 minutes and produced between 2023 and 2024. Learn more. Deadline: April 30

The Conch Shell International Film Festival is accepting submissions. Looking for an international film festival that celebrates Caribbean Diaspora and Caribbean filmmakers? Entering its 3rd year, Conch Shell International Film Fest (CSIFF) will be taking place in October 2024 in New York City and virtually. CSIFF ‘24 is a competitive festival featuring short films written by indie and student Caribbean and Caribbean Diaspora talent and established filmmakers. Submissions are open for the Hamptons International Film Festival. HIFF takes place annually in October, with a number of additional events held year round in New York City and the Hamptons. Named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World as well as one of 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, HIFF is the premier film event on New York State’s east end, and an intimate showcase of some of the year’s best offerings in contemporary cinema. Latitudes Cinema is seeking short film submissions. Latitude Cinemas champions world cinema and works featuring diasporic perspectives are encouraged to apply. All genres, styles, and themes are eligible. Accepted participants will have the opportunity to share their work in New York City and engage with audiences in post-screening discussions. Urbanworld Film Festival 2024 is accepting submissions. The Urbanworld Film Festival is the largest internationally competitive festival of its kind, hosted in New York City. The five-day festival includes narrative and documentary features, short films, web originals, branded content, spotlight screenings and conversations, and live staged screenplay readings. Registration is open for Asian American Film Lab’s 72 Hour Shootout. The Shootout is an annual, global filmmaking competition celebrating diversity in front of and behind the camera. Teams compete for access to a year of free educational and networking events, mentorships with executives at major networks like ABC, cash, prizes and the chance to have their films screened at film festivals, both nationally and internationally, and on television.The 2024 Shootout will take place June 6-9. The 22nd Annual Script Pipeline Screenwriting Competition is accepting submissions. The competition connects talented writers with production companies, agencies, and managers. As one of the longest-running and most successful screenplay contests, they focus specifically on finding writers representation, supporting diverse voices, championing ambitious storytelling, helping finance independent projects, and pushing original projects into production. Firelight Media’s Documentary Lab is now seeking applications! This 18-month fellowship is designed to nurture underrepresented nonfiction storytellers working on their first or second feature film. The Lab provides holistic support for fellows’ projects and careers through professional development retreats, customized mentorship, and $25,000 project grants. Firelight Media seeks applicants who are making artful and innovative documentary films that focus on underrepresented communities and provide new narratives about the most pressing issues of our time. Submissions are now open for the 2024 Gotham Week Project Market. Proof-of-concept short films with an accompanying feature-length screenplay can be submitted to be featured in Gotham Week Project Market’s Shorts to Features section. Fiction feature-length projects at the script stage can also be submitted to the U.S. Features in Development section. Taking place September 30 through October 4 in Brooklyn, the Project Market facilitates career-spanning relationships with distributors, financiers, production companies, festival programmers, sales and talent agents, collaborators, and more for all participating artists. Gotham Memberships are no longer required to apply. Regular deadline for all submissions is May 16. Extended members-only deadline is May 30.

Chelsea Film Festival is accepting submissions. Chelsea Film Festival is an international film competition that aims to discover upcoming talents by raising awareness about American & foreign independent films. The Festival attracts filmmakers, artists and audience members from across America and the world. It premieres independent narrative features, documentaries, short films and TV series focusing on global issues. The deadlines to submit are Late – May 31 and Extended – July 7. Denver Film currently seeks Letters of Interest (LOI) from filmmaking projects for the Music on Film – Film on Music grant. The MOFFOM grant is for projects that directly focus on music. The grant awards up to $20,000 annually in finishing funds for scoring, composition, and music licensing efforts for feature-length documentaries. The application period will run March 1 – June 3. The Black List‘s Annual Labs support promising, non-professional twelve writers in two cohorts: the Writers Lab cohort and the Projects Lab cohort. The Labs support writers on two distinct career tracks: those who are interested in being a career writer, with a focus on working within the studio system, and those who are interested in writing and directing their own work in the independent space. The goal of the Labs is for all twelve writers to emerge with the strongest possible script and the knowledge of how to move forward in their careers, with Black List support. The Labs are in-person, weeklong intensive writers workshops. Writers in both cohorts will workshop their feature screenplay through one-on-one sessions with professional screenwriting mentors and in peer workshops. As anti-Asian violence continues to rise and it appears that police and government entities are reluctant to truly step up, the Asian American Film Lab is commissioning a multi-media project to stop AAPI hate. AAFL invites you to empower the community by sharing your voices and stories. Send AAFL your stories of anti-AAPI Haye and how you dealt with them. Black Market Releasing (BMR) has announced their call for submissions.  BMR serves as a source connecting diverse voices and BIPOC stories to the big screen. BMR is a theatrical distributor of bold, new and authentic stories from diverse perspectives. Serving the dynamic, untapped theatrical market for diverse voices, its parent organization, CaribbeanTales has been connecting BIPOC stories to screens, and mobilizing audiences for over 20 years. Created by Women, from Little Dot Studios, are accepting submissions for their curated YouTube channel. Created by Women is a YouTube channel with content directed, written, or produced by women. Their goal is to generate attention and revenue for independent female and female-identified creators by offering a generous revenue share on monetized videos and using our media teams’ expertise to maximize their YouTube audience. AbilityE, a free platform for performers with disabilities to connect with entertainment studios, has launched. Casting studios are seeking disabled talent more than ever, and so to make these connections happen more quickly, abilityE was created. Disney, Netflix, NBC, and more major studios have expressed enthusiastic interest in this platform. The Peter Roth Internship Program at Paley Center is accepting applications beginning TOMORROW April 30. The Peter Roth Internship Program, named in honor of the legendary television executive, offers a paid internship each year for 20 talented undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities who are interested in a career in television. Applicants must be rising junior or senior students currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university. Sloan Distribution Grant from Film Independent is accepting submissions. The Sloan Distribution Grant is a $50,000 grant awarded by Film Independent to a film that is entering its distribution phase. Each year, Emmy-nominated public television series America ReFramed features diverse personal storytelling often tied to hot-button social issues. With 60 to 90-minute documentary films, followed by provocative conversations, this weekly program offers an unfiltered look at stories rarely given a voice on national television.
