NYWIFT Member Kash Blagrove

Welcome to NYWIFT! Could you give our readers a brief introduction to yourself?

Hi everyone, I’m Kash! I’m a producer that values authenticity, diversity, and proper representation in every production I do.

My family originates from Jamaica, but I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. In my spare time, I like to see friends, play cute video games, dilly-dally, and go to concerts [and] live music events.

What brought you to NYWIFT?

I’ve been producing for multiple ad agencies for a decade and finally wanted to step into more independent work. I knew NYWIFT would be a great place for me to find like-minded women with the same ambition and goals I have. I’m always down to meet other producers [and] filmmakers and make new friends!

What first drew you to producing, and how did your journey in the industry begin?

I’ve always loved film, music, and the entertainment industry but never knew where exactly I wanted to be. I produced my own television shows for my college campus and fell in love with production. After college, I landed a job at Grey New York and worked my way up from an assistant business manager to a full-fledged producer. The rest is history!

Congratulations on the recognition for the WNBA Line Em Up campaign at the 2025 Clio Sports Awards. What did working on that campaign mean to you, and what made it such a memorable project?

The WNBA Line ‘Em Up campaign is one of my proudest works because it involved so much. I produced our documentary, launch event, website, and organized parks to be painted in multiple cities. I got to work with legendary WNBA players and also make an impact in the community.

While filming, so many little girls came up to us in awe [of] this movement. And at the launch event, even more people were thrilled. To see how important this line means to women and girls all over is incredible. We even had people in Amsterdam drawing their own lines!

You’ve spoken about the importance of authenticity, diversity, and inclusion in your work. How do you bring those values into the projects and teams you help build, and why do you think it’s important for producers to advocate for more inclusive creative teams?

One thing I’ve noticed in my career is the lack of diversity and inclusion in the media. When reviewing some creative pitches [and] presentations, diversity felt like an afterthought or just a box to tick. It’s infuriating when marginalized people are not recognized or only recognized by the color of their skin or orientation.

In every casting, I push for more. I push for dark skin, I push for large bodies, I push for non-binary; because everyone deserves representation. Even in crews, the same people get booked over and over when others don’t. I believe in giving opportunities to all.

Looking ahead, what kinds of projects or collaborations are you most excited to explore next?

I am currently working on my own documentary about body positivity. This movement means a lot to me. I wouldn’t have the confidence I have now if it weren’t for the women before me that made it okay to love yourself as is. I’m so excited to share with the world.
