Kate Marks film PEARL WAS HERE has over 21 million views (and counting) on YouTube. She is a 2016 HBO Access Directing Fellow as well as a 2013 Project Involve Fellow (and Barbara Boyle Award winner). While in the HBO Access program, she shadowed on an episode of DIVORCE under veteran director Scott Ellis and helmed a pilot of her own, MANIC. Premiering at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, MANIC went on to win Best Drama at the New York Television Festival and Best Actress in a Drama at Series Fest. MANIC is currently streaming on HBO Go. Her award-winning short films (PEARL WAS HERE, HOMEBODY, 7 DAY GIG, and MIRACLE MAKER) continue to screen all over the world. Highlights include Slamdance, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Palm Springs ShortFest, New Orleans Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival and broadcasting on PBS. Kate began making films after working as a theater director and playwright in New York City where The New York Times named her a superb director and called one of her productions ingenious. Kate holds a BA from Brown University and her MFA in film-directing from CalArts where she received the Beutner Award for Excellence in the Arts. She is currently writing and directing commercials while creating original content for film and TV. In addition to being a storyteller, Kate is an organizer, a teacher, a stilt-walker, a bad trombonist, and a reckless dancer.
