BARBARA SUTTON MASRY

Barbara Masry is an accomplished writer, producer, educator, and activist.
While raising two children and teaching early childhood, she continually wrote and produced for community theater in Great Neck, Long Island. Among the plays she has written and produced, A Fettucini Affair was published by Samuel French in 1978 . Other plays include, Womansong in 1980, Suburban Serenade in 1984, and her most recent play, Rewriting Her Life, which she produced in Manhattan as an Equity Showcase in December, 2007 and at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre's Summerfest, 2009. She has also written and produced shows for Cable TV, including Suburban Serenade in 1985, When Parents Talk to Teens in 1986, The Breast Cancer Quilt, 1994, and public service messages for the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition. Video shorts she has written and produced are A Day in Pre-K in 1996, My Paris, 1998, and A Wake-up Call, 2013..
After retiring from teaching in 1998, she joined CineWomenNY, AIVF, and IFP, and studied screenwriting with screenwriting coaches China Clark, former teacher of Quentin Tarantino, Charlie Kaufman, and Spike Lee, and with Marilyn Horowitz at NYU and privately. In 2005, she completed a treatment of Niki,about the life of artist, Niki de Saint Phalle. Her screenplay, A Wake-up Call, adapted from her novel, Pink Warrior, is in development for an independent film.
She is an activist working to improve opportunities for women in film and in theater.
