pDr. Scott-Ward is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and award-winning documentary filmmaker. She earned her B.A. from Cornell University in Psychology with a concentration in Women’s Studies and completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the City University of New York. In 2013, while working full- time as a Clinical Psychologist at Barnard College’s Counseling Center, she started production of her first documentary film, Back to Natural.  /ppBack to Natural reveals the shocking truth about hair, politics, and racial identity in Black communities and beyond. Filmed in the US, France, and South Africa, this documentary is powerful call for healing that takes a grassroots approach to exploring the globalized policing of natural Black hair, universal aspects of the Black experience and the New Natural Hair movement./ppHer film is a unique blend of entertainment, history, healing and social activism. After traveling internationally with the film, Gillian began the Back to Natural Healing Tour where she offered screenings in conjunction with Healing Workshops which combine group process with concrete healing tools to address individual and group, race-based trauma. In June 2018, she left the college mental health world to dedicate herself to her Healing Tour and work on her next documentary that focuses on reclaiming ancestral relationships with the earth and spiritual healing practices. /p
