Full Bio
Rachel S. Thomas-Medwid is an award-winning screenwriter, director, author, and independent filmmaker. As a storyteller, she likes to explore the darker instincts of human nature as a means of shedding light on important subjects. Her short film The Squirrels in the Attic takes on the topic of sex offenders and the multiple levels of fallout that can occur from this crime. It is currently in the festival circuit and recently received the Audience Award for Outstanding Short at the Film Invasion Los Angeles Festival 2020, is an official selection in the upcoming Austin Revolution Film Festival, Global Lift-Off New York, the Montreal Independent Film Festival, and Mystic International Film Festival, and is a semi-finalist in the Academy Award Qualifying Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival. She recently won the Female Filmmaker Award at the 2020 Lonely Seal International Film Festival and as part of the award the film will be taken to the 2021 Cannes Film Market at Cannes Film Festival.

Her other screenplays two features, a television pilot, and numerous shorts have won multiple awards and have provided her with incredible opportunities to network and learn more about the craft of filmmaking. Her most recent screenplay, The Influencer, was the Grand Prize Winner in the ISA s Shoot Your Short 2020 contest and is currently in preproduction. She also recently directed another of her award-winning screenplays, In the Company of Crows, which is in postproduction and scheduled for release in 2021. She was recently named a finalist for the New England Film Star Award for the project. Rachel feels that stories are an extraordinary tool that can help both empower and humanize individuals that may not have that voice in the real world. There are so many stories to tell and she s looking forward to continuing that journey through both writing and independent filmmaking.
