Fierce Funny & Fly

In this time of growing women’s empowerment, a group of Black female comics in New Orleans form a comedy collective called Black Girl Giggles, and produce a comedy to festival to coincide with Essence Festival 2018, thereby creating a supportive new space for diverse new voices. Combining intimate personal interviews, standup performances, behind the scene footage, and an insider’s peek into the local comedy landscape in the Big Easy, Fierce Funny & Fly chronicles the birth of a dynamic new scene, and the next generation of comedic greatness.

Natalie Holly is an actor and writer who in worked in international development for several years before turning her eye to film, her first love. She has acted on many off-off Broadway stages including The Kraine Theater, Producer’s Club, and most recently, Short Plays to Nourish the Mind and Soul at the George Bruce Library. The has been published in Harper’s Magazine, The Haitian Times, IndieWire and New York Film Academy. Fierce, Funny, and Fly is her first documentary film.


Jean Paul Noel produced the house music documentary Hands To The Sky (2015) because of his lifelong love of the genre. Since completion of the film, he co-founded Griot X Motion, a film and video production company. Fierce, Funny, and Fly afforded him the chance to finally explore New Orleans—one of the few cities in the U.S. that calls him.
