Dear NYWIFT Community,

It is my great pleasure to announce that the Board of Directors has named Cynthia López, an Emmy, Peabody and duPont-Columbia Award-winning media strategist, and former Commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, as NYWIFT’s next Executive Director to serve our organization. Cynthia will succeed our beloved Terry Lawler, who concludes her remarkable 21-year tenure on January 1st, 2019.

Cynthia joins us with a distinguished career and a deep dedication to NYWIFT’s mission. Her proven talent at fostering community, organizational and governmental partnerships, outstanding fundraising abilities, and commitment to equality in all areas of entertainment align perfectly with our storied forty-year history and our vision for the future of the organization. We look forward to Cynthia’s leadership on the heels of tremendous change in our industry and at such a crucial time for women’s equality and equity.

Besides serving as the steward of New York City’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, Cynthia was Executive Vice President and co-Executive Producer of the award-winning PBS documentary series, American Documentary | POV and was involved in the organization’s strategic growth and creative development for 14 years. We are immensely grateful to Terry Lawler for her leadership these past two decades. As I noted in my prior letter, Terry has led NYWIFT to exceptional heights, firmly establishing the organization as the preeminent professional association for women in our industry. Her contribution to the organization and to our industry is indelible. Please mark your calendars for Terry’s final Muse Awards as Executive Director on December 13th, 2018 (our amazing slate of honorees will be announced soon!). I hope to see you all there as we toast Terry’s incredible legacy.

This is an exciting – and mission critical – time for women in our industry and we are thrilled to have Cynthia with us at the helm. Please join me in welcoming her to our community.
