Member Profile: Marilyn Casselman
In 2006, she started The Freeborn Project, which promotes and expands feminist knowledge and principles to mainstream women through two workshops.
Talking the Walk (“Feminism Made Friendly”) is based on her soon-to-be-published book, Talking the Walk: The Grassroots Language of Feminism. This workshop/seminar teaches a framework of essential concepts that breaks the grip of male dominance on the intellect. The second workshop, New Stories, New Themes, is a story lab for women in film and theatre. The process reveals new, female-focused bones of dramatic storytelling. Casselman has had an illustrious career as theatre, film and television producer, writer and management, marketing and sales guru.
She wrote, produced and directed The Performance Artist in New York and is playmaster with the Instant Shakespeare Marathon Reading Series.
Casselman handled film and television marketing for Warner Communications, established the US arm of UK distributor Richard Price TV Associates and worked on distribution for social-interest documentaries at American Documentary Films and Impact Films. She was a director at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and part of the production unit at the World Festival of Entertainment at Expo 67, which had over 200 attractions, six theatres and one stadium — all operating simultaneously.
She has dual US/Canadian citizenship and divides her time between Montreal and New York.
