Free: New Generation of Polish Filmmakers, Nov. 16-17

Opening Night of the New Generation of Polish Filmmakers at the Tribeca Film Center on Nov. 15 is sold out, thanks in large measure to NYWIFT member support. Tickets are still available for FREE screenings on Nov 16-17. Register here. Fifteen short films, two full-length features, and one special classic vintage film will screen, including:
Women directors at the screenings: Friday, Nov. 16, 7 pm Hanoi-Warsaw (Hanoi-Warszawa) Dir. Katarzyna Klimkiewicz 2010, 30 minutes A young Vietnamese woman finds her way into Poland through the green border. Now she just has to reach Warsaw. Her fiancée is waiting for her there, as is a better life and the fulfillment of all her dreams. Her journey through Poland is hell, full of violence and humiliation. The young girl escapes her traffickers and despite not knowing the language, nor having a penny on her, she attempts to reach the capital. Saturday, Nov. 17, 3 pm Aria Diva Dir. Agnieszka Smoczyńska 2006, 38 minutes Thirty-year-old Basia runs her household and raises her two sons together with her loving husband. It seems to her that she leads a settled life and has everything she needs to be happy. It is apparently so until the moment an opera diva moves into an apartment above hers and starts to seduce Basia with her voice. Saturday, Nov. 17, 4:30 pm Piece of Summer (Kawałek lata) Dir. Marta Minorowicz 2010, 18 minutes In the last days of the summer holiday, a grandfather who works in the Bieszczady Mountains, awaits the arrival of his grandson. Surrounded by nature, they try to reach understand each other. The camera keenly observes, with slow and subtle pacing, their developing relationship with one another and the world that envelops them. Minorowicz will hold a Q&A with the audience after the film.
